Xalli is a roguelike deckbuilding game set in Aztec mythology, painted by hand in the style of the ancient codices. The run is the pure roguelike deck-building shape: draw a hand, spend energy, read the telegraphed enemy intent, block or race it, pick a card, move on the branching map, end each act against a god of the Five Suns.
What the setting changes: five lineages (Jaguar, Eagle, Cipactli, Frog, Mictlan) with separate card pools, cooking between fights that carries into the next one, faction totems, and fights against several enemies at once. Built phone-first for one-handed portrait play; the PC version came after. English and Mexican Spanish.
Why we rank it first: it is the only game in this list that is a roguelike deckbuilder in the strict sense and set inside Aztec mythology rather than next to it. Weigh that against the obvious bias; it is our game.

2. Untraveled Lands: Chantico

A card-based survival and crafting game framed as a 1930s expedition into a Mesoamerican jungle. You build a village, manage survivors, gather and craft with cards, and fight with cards too. It won the Industry Gold Award at the Tencent GWB 2024 competition and is the one other card game near this setting.
Why second and not first: it is a survival-crafting game with a card engine, not a Slay the Spire-style roguelike deckbuilder, and the Aztec world is a backdrop seen from an explorer's outside view rather than the mythology itself. If that is what you want, it is the better pick; this page ranks by how close a game is to the query.
