Which roguelike deck builder to play next on a phone, and where Xalli fits.
Built phone-first: one-handed, portrait, no stretched tablet UI.
If you finished Slay the Spire and want the same shape of game on a phone, the usual recommendations are Monster Train, Balatro, Cobalt Core and Pirates Outlaws. They are all good and they all do something different with the formula.
Xalli is ours, so weigh it accordingly. Xalli is a roguelike deckbuilding game set in Aztec mythology, painted by hand in the style of the ancient codices.
Most deckbuilders are PC games with a phone port bolted on. The tells are always the same: a landscape layout squeezed into portrait, card text too small to read, and a two-handed UI.
Xalli was built the other way round — phone first, portrait, one-handed, with card text sized to be read at arm's length. The PC version came after.
I finished Slay the Spire and Monster Train. What mobile deckbuilder next?
Balatro, Cobalt Core and Pirates Outlaws are the usual next steps and all run well on a phone. Xalli is a hand-painted roguelike deckbuilder set in Aztec mythology, built phone-first for one-handed portrait play, coming to Android and iOS.
